Public liability insurance for sports clubs
Sports clubs may be liable for injuries that occur on their premises. Public liability insurance can help provide financial protection in case of a claim arising from accidents such as:
- a member of the club tripping and being injured on club grounds
- a ball hitting a spectator
- a visitor trips over a lose rope or piece of equipment
- a member of your club damages a third-party’s property
Do sports clubs need Public Liability insurance?
Although it is not a legal requirement, having public liability insurance can help to financially protect you if any claims arise from a member of the public being injured or their property is damaged as a result of the club’s activities, or if your club interacts with the public in any way.
Some national sports bodies, like the FA or Sport England, may require you to have proof of insurance in different situations, for example, if you need additional funding or affiliation.
Additionally, if your club employs staff in the UK, Employers’ Liability insurance is legally required. Employers’ Liability can be taken out on its own policy through Ripe or selected alongside other cover.
