FAQ Why should I consider watch insurance?

Buying a watch can be an exciting experience, from browsing different brands, materials and styles to measuring your size and trying models on in person.

If you’ve recently purchased or been gifted a watch, you’ve probably considered insuring it. Luxury watches can be eye-catching, difficult to trace, and easy to sell secondhand, which also sadly makes them highly desirable to thieves.

This risk of theft, plus the likely high cost of repairing or replacing your watch if it is lost or damaged, is why you might want to consider specialist high-end watch insurance.

Meet our watch insurance expert

“In 2025, 30% of claims through Ripe Valuables Insurance were caused by accidental damage. To protect your watch, remove it from your wrist during activities where it may be at greater risk of damage, such as travel, sports, or other physical activities. If you’re away from home, you must wear it, store it securely in a locked safe, or keep it in your close personal custody for your insurance to be valid.”

How to insure a Rolex with Rolex watch insurance?

As Rolex watches are such a significant investment, you’ll want to make sure you have a receipt or proof of purchase, or an up-to-date appraisal within the last three years from a NAJ-registered valuer, to ensure your watch is insured for the right value.

It’s also good practice to note the serial number and take several photos of the watch, as this may help you in the future if it's lost or stolen and you need to file a police report to support a claim.

Then, all you need to do to get insured through Ripe is head to our online quote page, fill in your personal details, and provide some information about your watch to get insured today.

Watch collection insurance

We know that luxury watches can be somewhat of a collector's item for some people. If that's you, watch collection insurance through Ripe can help protect your watches up to a combined maximum value of £30k.

As long as each watch is worth a minimum of £1k (maximum £20k), you can add as many watches to your policy as you like—perfect if you've got multiple makes and models.

Watch Insurance FAQs
  • The cost to insure a watch depends on several factors, such as the value of the watch itself. The quickest and easiest way to find out how much your cover could cost is to get a quote online through Ripe.

Some home insurers may exclude away-from-home cover completely, while others may charge you an additional premium for it. That’s why specialist watch insurance may be something to consider if you like to wear your watch out and about.
