Your brushes, palettes and products can be covered against loss, theft and damage, so you are protected wherever you are working.
If something goes wrong with a client, treatment liability cover can financially help, so you are not dealing with it alone.
Whether you are working on weddings, events or shoots, Public Liability cover helps protect you where you're working, so you can work with confidence.
Your work is creative, personal and often carried out in different spaces. One day might be in a salon, the next at a client’s home or a busy event. With tools, products and close contact involved, unexpected issues can arise.
Makeup artist insurance by Ripe is designed to reflect the way you work. It supports freelance, salon based and mobile artists, helping you stay focused on your artistry.
Makeup artist insurance can cover essential protections such as public and products liability and treatment risk, with optional extras to tailor your cover for your business and equipment.

Exclusions to buildings, shop front, and contents cover - Excludes wear and tear, manufacturing faults, vermin, or inherent defects, alongside theft and escape of water if the building has not been occupied for 30 consecutive days.

Applying makeup may not seem inherently risky, but like all small businesses, accidents and unexpected events can still occur. From allergic reactions to cosmetic products to accidental damage to a client’s property or your own equipment, there are a range of potential exposures to consider.
For makeup artists who employ staff, Employers’ Liability cover helps provide financial protection against claims arising from employee injury or illness. Even if you work independently, other types of cover, such as public liability or professional indemnity, can help provide financial protection for your day-to-day business activities.
By having appropriate cover in place, makeup artists can focus on their creative work and client services while managing the business risks that come with their profession, regardless of the setting in which they operate.
Your cover depends on what you want to protect your business against, but the three main types of makeup artist insurance are:
Public Liability—this covers your legal liability to third parties for treatment risks, personal injury or property damage
Employers’ Liability—this is a legal requirement for businesses with employees and covers their legal liability to them for bodily injury
Equipment Cover—this covers theft or accidental damage to your business equipment, such as your brushes or the laptop you use to manage your accounts and website
You may want to include Money Cover to provide financial protection if money belonging to your business is stolen from your premises or in transit. This can be useful for mobile makeup artists that deal in cash.
Buildings Cover is an additional option if you want financial protection for a beauty salon you own or are responsible for if the building or contents are damaged.
Many factors can affect the cost of your makeup artist insurance, such as:
amount of experience
where your business is based
the type and level of cover you choose
At Ripe, we like to keep insurance simple, and we don’t believe you should pay for cover you don’t need. See if you can save time and money by building your own policy and getting an online quote through us.
When you’re applying makeup, there is a risk of your client suffering an injury and holding you liable. Mobile makeup artists also run the risk of damaging their client’s property.
For example, even if you’re using high-quality products, a client may still suffer an allergic reaction, or you could spill foundation on their expensive new rug.
Public liability insurance protects your legal liability if a claim is made against you or your employees for injury or damage to third-party property.
At Ripe, we arrange up to £10m public liability insurance for makeup artists to help you run your business stress-free.
No makeup artist expects to cancel appointments and lose income due to their equipment being damaged or stolen. But unfortunately, running a business comes with these risks.
If you weren’t insured and had to cover the repairs or replacement costs yourself, your business could run into financial difficulty.
With Ripe, you can include specialist Equipment Cover up to £10,000 to protect your gear against theft and accidental damage, so you can continue serving clients without much disruption.
It only takes one employee to become ill or injured whilst working for you for a claim to be made against your business.
That’s why most UK businesses are legally required to have Employers’ Liability insurance. This covers your costs and legal expenses in the event of a claim.
Here at Ripe, we offer £10m Employers’ Liability cover as standard so you can operate your business with peace of mind.
Although makeup artist insurance isn’t a legal requirement, freelance makeup artists face many of the same risks that makeup artists face when employed full-time by a company.
Freelance makeup artist insurance also helps provides financial protection and peace of mind should you need to make a claim.
If you choose to refer your friends to us, not only will we reward you with a £50 voucher of your choice, but your friends could make some great savings too!
