Ripe Valuables Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

Explore the Valuables Insurance FAQs below. If you are looking to get in touch, please visit our product support centre.

Values & Valuations
  • Under our Valuables policies the maximum value that we can insure per household is £50,000 and we are not able to insure more than this value.

Please be aware that you cannot insure £50,000 per policy, the maximum value applies to the household. If you take out a second policy and the maximum value insured in the household is over £50,000 then one of the policies would need to be cancelled.

  • We can cover items from £1,000 up to a maximum value of £20,000 per item. For more details you can look over our policy summary.

Please note, the maximum total insured value for all items in a single household is £50,000.

  • Even though you bought the item in a sale/discounted price, you should insure the item for the amount it would cost you to replace it as new, without any sale price/discount applied at the usual recommended retail price (RRP).

If you are buying a second-hand/pre-owned item, you should insure it for its second hand/pre-owned price, not the cost to buy the item brand new.

  • Valuations must be within the last 3 years and from a National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) approved valuer.

You can find your nearest certified valuer here: National Association of Jewellers.

  • It’s likely your items have changed in price since you bought them so it’s important to have them valued regularly to make sure you are insuring them for their true value.

You should have valuations done every 3 years and from a National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) approved valuer.

Cover & Exclusions
  • Our policies are designed to cover

    • Watches

    • Rings

    • Necklaces

    • Bracelets

    • Bangles

    • Broaches

    • Earrings

    • Necklaces

    • Tiaras

  • Many items of jewellery or watches can increase in value over time. We insure your items on an Agreed Value basis.

This is based on the valuation given by you at inception of your policy or at a subsequent renewal of your policy. Our cover is intended to put you in the same financial position you were in before the loss occurred, so we therefore agree to pay for the repair or replacement or issue a voucher up to the limit provided in your insurance schedule.

The value of your items must be substantiated by proof of/evidence of ownership and/or a valuation based on the full value of your item(s).

Please note, valuations must be within the last 3 years and from a National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) approved valuer.

  • Naturally, there are some policy conditions, and full details are provided in your policy documents.

Some of the key exclusions are detailed below

    • Theft from your home is only covered if jewellery and watches are kept inside the home and any security devices are in operation and there is clear evidence of forcible and violent entry or exit.

    • Theft or loss away from the home is not covered unless the items are:

    • Being worn by you or your immediate family

    • Being carried under your close personal custody or control or that of your immediate family

    • Deposited in a bank or locked safe

    • Loss or theft of your jewellery or watches must be substantiated by Evidence of Ownership and/or a Jewellery Valuation.

You will still be covered for theft & accidental damage.

  • The policy will pay for the repair or replacement of the damage/lost item including depreciation.

If a replacement for the damaged/lost part cannot be found, we will pay out for the set however we may keep the remaining or undamaged part as salvage.

Payments & Premium Credit
  • You can choose to pay in full on a card, single direct debit payment or spread the costs across the year with our monthly payment option.

Please note, monthly payments are only available for policies over £30.00.

  • If you have chosen to pay for your insurance policy monthly, there are fees applicable for missed payments or if your credit agreement has not been completed.

If you are seeing any additional fees on your statement and have a monthly instalment plan with Premium Credit, you will need to contact them on 0344 736 9836.

  • Premium Credit is the leading premium finance company in the UK and Ireland.

When you choose to pay for your insurance policy with us on a monthly basis, your credit agreement will be provided by Premium Credit.

Please note: A credit search will be carried out which will leave a footprint. Interest charges apply.

  • If you need to discuss your Premium Credit agreement please contact Premium Credit on 0344 736 9836.

  • The reason for having 2 monthly payments around the same time is that these are the first 2 out of your 10 monthly payments for your policy.

When a policy renews with the monthly payment option selected, our partners at Premium Credit will collect the first 2 out of the 10 monthly payments from you around the same day.

This is due to the first payment after renewal taking up to 10 working days to be set up and then your payments continue as normal, on the usual payment date. This means that the first 2 payments will be taken close together or even on the same day.

Please be assured that this does not impact the cost of your insurance in any way and you would now have only 8 monthly payments remaining this year.
