A classic van may be exempt from MOT testing once it is more than 40 years old, provided it hasn't been substantially modified within the last 30 years. Even if a vehicle qualifies for an MOT exemption, it must still be kept in a roadworthy condition.
Eligibility for MOT exemption is determined by DVLA rules, so it's important to check if your vehicle meets the relevant criteria.
No, Classic Van Insurance by Ripe does not cover commercial vehicles. Cover is intended for eligible classic vans used for leisure, hobby or private purposes rather than commercial use. If a vehicle is used for business or commercial activities, it will not be eligible for cover.
Getting a quote is the quickest way to find out whether a vehicle can be covered and explore the available cover options.
In the UK, some classic vans may qualify for Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax) exemption once they reach 40 years old. This operates on a rolling basis, meaning additional vehicles become eligible each year.
To benefit from the exemption, the vehicle will usually need to be registered with the DVLA in the historic vehicle tax class. Eligibility should always be confirmed with the DVLA.
If your campervan is under 15 years old and does not qualify as a 'classic', Ripe arranges specialist motorhome and campervan insurance, designed to help financially protect you whilst on the move.
