When might a classic Land Rover owner need insurance? While every owner's circumstances are different, there are several situations where specialist classic Land Rover insurance may help provide financial protection.
If your Land Rover has been restored or modified
If you use your Land Rover for touring holidays
If your friends and family also drive your Land Rover
If your classic Land Rover has become more valuable over time
Restored classic Land Rovers may be eligible for insurance, subject to the vehicle meeting underwriting criteria. Information about the vehicle's condition, restoration work and any modifications may be required during the quote process.
Some older Land Rover Defender models may be considered classics, depending on their age, history and the insurer's eligibility criteria. Getting a quote is the quickest way to find out if an eligible Defender can be covered by classic Land Rover insurance by Ripe.
A classic Land Rover may be exempt from MOT testing once it is more than 40 years old, provided it hasn't been substantially modified within the last 30 years. Even if a vehicle qualifies for an MOT exemption, it must still be kept in a roadworthy condition. Eligibility should always be confirmed with the DVLA.
Classic Land Rovers are well known for their off-road capability. Cover for off-road use will depend on the circumstances, how the vehicle is being used and the policy terms and conditions. It's important to check the policy documentation to understand what is and isn't covered.
