Additional photography insurance cover

Photography equipment

The right cover to suit all levels of photographer.

Not all photographers are the same and not all photographers want the same insurance cover. We know that a keen amateur photographer with an expensive camera and a few lenses, has different insurance needs to a professional portrait photographer with multiple cameras, a studio full of equipment and full-time members of staff. This is exactly why we leave it up to you to decide what cover you’d like. As well as Equipment cover, Public Liability and Employers' Liability insurance, we also offer the following cover types:

For all levels of photographers and videographers:

Mobile phones and tablets cover
  • What is covered?
    • If your mobile phones and tablets are used in conjunction with your photography equipment, you can include this cover within your policy, to provide protection against theft and accidental damage.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • There is a fixed amount of £1,000 cover available, with a maximum of £2,000 payable in any one period of insurance.

    What is not covered?
    • There are naturally some requirements about where your tablets and phones are kept and precautions you should take whilst using them. Please check the Policy Wording for full details or give us a call if you have any questions.

Cover outside of the UK
  • What is covered?
    • As this is an extension to the rest of your cover, it will depend on the options you choose. For example, if you select Equipment and Mobile Phones and Tablets, this cover will be extended to either the EU or Worldwide.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • You can select EU only or Worldwide cover.

    What is not covered?
    • The same exclusions apply to your policy as they would to the cover you have in the UK. Check your Policy Wording for full details.

Theft from a vehicle cover
  • What is covered?
    • Theft of your equipment up to the limit specified when you take out the policy. We'll replace any stolen items up to 3 years old on a New for Old basis. The cost of replacement as new is payable for any stolen items less than 3 years old (laptops and tablets less than 18 months old), provided they were purchased new at the time.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • There is no set amount and you can select the level of cover that you wish to include, up to a maximum of £20,000. This should be the amount that would be in a vehicle at any one time. If you select an amount of £5,000 or greater, the vehicle must be fitted with a factory fitted alarm for your items to be covered.

    What is not covered?
    • Any theft from a vehicle between the hours of 8pm and 6am. Theft from any soft top or convertible, trailers or roof boxes. Theft when your equipment is hired out or loaned by you (unless you are in attendance). There are naturally some provisions about the vehicle being securely locked and for thefts to be reported to the police. Please check all of the details within the Policy Wording.

For semi-professional and professional photographers:

Equipment hire
  • What is covered?
    • You'll be covered for the cost of hiring replacement photography equipment, should your own be damaged. The equipment hired must be of a comparable type to that which was stolen or damaged.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • A fixed sum of £500 per week and a total of £2,000 during any one period of insurance.

    What is not covered?
    • You can only claim the equipment hire costs if there is a valid claim for theft or damage to your own equipment. You must provide proof of hire and the costs must not exceed a normal charge from a recognised supplier of hired photography equipment. Check your Policy Wording for full details.

Professional indemnity
  • What is covered?
    • Claims including legal costs and expenses up to the amount you selected when you took out the policy. This includes negligent acts, errors or omissions whilst working as a photographer.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • You can choose from two options: up to £75,000 or up to £150,000. This will be specified on your insurance schedule.

    What is not covered?
    • Personal injury is excluded. Any claims must not have been made before the insurance started. Claims brought by any dishonest, fraudulent, criminal or malicious act or omission are also excluded. There are some additional exclusions which you should read through before taking out this cover. See your Policy Wording for full details.

Accidental damage/theft to portfolio
Hired-in equipment
  • What is covered?
    • This provides cover for any photography equipment you hire-in to replace any of your own equipment which is unusable, or damaged.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • 10% of your equipment value or £2,000, whichever is the least.

    What is not covered?
    • The photography equipment hired-in must be under a hiring agreement between you and a recognised photography equipment hiring or leasing company. As per your Equipment cover, there are some exclusions about where the equipment is stored and the limits of cover. Please check the Policy Wording for full details.

Associates cover
  • What is covered?
    • Any cover that you choose when you take out your policy is extended to those working with you, helping you or volunteering for you. For example, if you take out Equipment cover, which covers theft and accidental damage, this cover will extend to anyone working with you.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • The level of cover that you have selected is like-for-like for those working with you, helping you or volunteering for you.

    What is not covered?
    • The exclusions depend on the type of cover and will be the same for your associates as they are for you. For example, any Equipment cover exclusions will be the same for you and your associates. See your Policy Wording for full details of the exclusions that apply to each area of cover.

Legal expenses cover
  • What is covered?
    • Legal expenses insurance provides cover to protect you against potential legal issues that you might become involved in through your photography business. The cover includes; contract disputes, debt recovery, tax enquiries, criminal prosecution defence, jury service, social media defamation and access to a legal and tax helpline.

What level of cover do you offer?
    • Our Legal Expenses insurance provides cover up to £25,000.

    What is not covered?
